5 Fun Halloween Ideas...


We love Halloween here. The youngest two children have lots of fun scaring each other! Most of all; they love scaring me!!


I am sure throughout the holiday we will be making lots of fun Halloween crafts and games to play. Today I am sharing 5 fun ideas you can do with the children for Halloween:


1.) Draw, paint  or use stickers to make funny faces onto Pumpkins.


2.) Halloween carving: The children thought the bozzy Pumpkins were a good idea but you could do the same with sweets. Too many sweets make you sick!!

What you need~
  • A Pumpkin or 2
  • A knife, (I knew my Pumpkin knife I've had years would eventually come in handy)
  • Some kind of face designs ~eyes, nose and mouth... either bough, you have drawn or printed off the internet
  • Scissors
  • Blu-tack
  • Tea lights
What we did~
  1. First we picked out who wanted which face designs and cut them out.
  2. We then stuck them in place onto the Pumpkins, blu-tack or glue is good for this.
  3. After they had dried we set onto cutting the tops off the Pumpkins, or should I say I did!! the kids then disappeared and left mum to it!!
  4. Then I scooped all the Pumpkin seeds out.
  5. Onto cutting around the eyes, nose and mouth. 

3.) Halloween Graveyard cake:

This can be fun making a plain sponge cake and covering it in yummy chocolate buttercream. Placing rectangle biscuits in for gravestones, jellied worms of effect and chocolate fingers around as a fence!!


4.) Spider Cupcakes :

Makes: 12 cakes

Ingredients for Cakes:
  • 100g plain chocolate
  • 150g unsalted butter, softened
  • 150g caster sugar 20g cocoa, sifted
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 125g self raising flour
  • 1 ½tsp baking powder
  • 2 tbsp Rachel’s Greek Style natural yogurt


Ingredients for Frosting:
  • 4tbsp golden syrup
  • 80ml double cream
  • 100g milk chocolate
  • 100g plain chocolate
  • 3 tbsp Rachel’s Greek Style natural yogurt


Ingredients for Decoration:
  • Chocolate sugar strands
  • Smarties or similar sweets (for the eyes)
  • Liquorice laces or Catherine wheels

Method:

1. Pre-heat the oven 180°C, Gas Mark 4 and line a muffin tray with paper cases.

2. Put the chocolate in a heatproof bowl and microwave on medium power for 1 minute until melted, alternatively place over a pan of simmering water.

3. In a mixing bowl beat the butter, caster sugar, cocoa powder and eggs, until soft and creamy. Add the flour and baking powder. Lastly add in the yogurt ensure the mixture is well combined.

4. Spoon the mixture into the cases and bake for 20 minutes until risen and firm to touch. Leave to cool.

5. Meanwhile in a small bowl gently heat the icing ingredients (except the yogurt). Either do this in a microwave, medium power or over a pan of simmering water until the chocolate has melted, leave to cool then add the yogurt. The frosting should be soft but not runny.

6. Spoon the frosting onto each cake and carefully spread with the back of a knife. Dip each cake into chocolate sugar strands then place the Smarties for eyes, cut the liquorice laces into 8 equal pieces and push into the icing – work quickly before the frosting sets. To make the eyes stand out and a mouth simply place some of the frosting in a piping bag with a small plain nozzle and pipe for the desired effect.



5.) Decorate your garden and make it into somewhere scary!! A great place for budget Halloween ideas is the Pound shops. You can pick up lots of scary things in these places and it wont brake the bank either! Top tip, go around them all in your town. Each one sells different things...
