Horrible History Break At Butlins..

We have just come back from a fun filled week at Butlins Skegness. All as part of my Butlins Ambassador role. We got the chance to try out a Horrible History themed break. Perfect for Spring Bank Holiday. The only thing during our week, which was not perfect however, the weather! Although as it turns out, if you stay at Butlins, come rain shine or gale force winds the fun really never stops!!

Read on...

We decided to travel by train. So a nice early walk to the station was needed. Everyone up with a smile, with a spring in their step? Not likely!! After a few tantrums (mainly the Hubby;-) we are on our way. A few hours after getting up we arrive in Skegness to be greeted by the Jolly Fisherman.

A nice stroll for us to Butlins from here. At least it was for us. The wheels broke on the suitcase, so the Hubby had to carry it. Apparently 2½ miles is a long way with a suitcase on your shoulder. Oops. Sorry no pictures of this incident have been allowed...

We arrived quite early, so after checking in we decided to go swimming until our room was ready. Luckily we were prepared with our swimming gear on under our clothes. Or everyone was except me!! I stayed in the viewing area with a nice coffee. It was lovely and warm. I was chilled eating and drinking with my feet up. Maybe not having my costume on, was a clever plan. Shush.

The swimming complex was brilliant. We have been to all the Butlins resorts. Skegness Splash Waterworld is the best. You could stay here for hours. We were there every day. We all loved the outdoor rapids and the slides. Everyone was laughing and smiling. Bonus.

My Husband dragged the kids out of the pool. Our room was ready. Let's unpack and get ready for dinner. Gold accommodation upto the usual Butlins high standards. With extras since we last stopped such as crisps wine beer and some Nobby's Nuts. Delicious. A nice welcome.

I always look out for the fun towel displays the house keepers do. A little doggy towel was on the bed. I hope my Son at home is looking after our dog Mollie? If Butlins ever do a creative class on how to do all these towel animal designs, someone let me know!!

They made up a different design everyday.

Me and my daughter having fun in the Butlins VW.

On our first night out I was made up seeing Alison Hammond and asked her if I could take a selfie! She was lovely.

To follow a selection of pictures from our week in Butlins.

You cannot go wrong with Butlins food. Especially the premium dining. There is something for everyone. From cereal, fried breakfast, pastries, pancakes. To old school porridge and kippers. So many yummy choices. All delicious. In the evening a carvery loads of puddings and foods of the world. Again scrumdiddlyumptious.

How sweet are these yogurt and granola pots!?

The swimming entrance.

The Kids and Hubby's favourite the 2p machines. If there was a 2 pence piece on the street here. No interest whatsoever. They would walk straight past it. Put some flashing lights, music and conveyor belts around the 2p and they would be engrossed all day.

My Daughter waiting for the Little Mix tribute band to come on stage. Excited!

Liquid refreshment for me and the Hubby...

Fun in the slots...

Trying out my driving skills...

All the fun of the fair...

The kids were calling me 3 cakes Claire by the end of the week!!

My Husband and Son had lots of fun in the games room playing snooker...

A collage with some of out fun from our break...

Eat like a King for breakfast, don't they say?

My Daughter taken part in the Horrible History afternoon...

Crafty afternoon as part of a Horrible History Day.

Butlins now do lots of themed breaks. Some just for adults music nostalgia such as 80s music weekends.

They also do lots for families. See image below for just a few they do this year.

The theme this week was Horrible Histories which is new for 2016. We love our British history. Whenever we get chance we like to go London, exploring the Tower or going to Hampton Court. A perfect break for us then. Myself and Daughter spent a couple of hours having some crafting fun. All based around a history theme. Then in the evening the Centre Stage show was a History of Britain as told by some rather brilliant actors from the Birmingham Stage.

At school History was probably the most boring subject you could imagine. A poor teacher, combined with monotonous text. Every lesson seemed the same. Not so with the Horrible History collection. The books started in 1993 and the BBC TV show in 2009. Now the Butlins stage show.

What Horrible Histories manages to create is a FUN yet still educational way of selling History to children and adults alike. Picking out some of the gruesome or strange facts from the past. Appealing to the curious nature of kids. If you have never read the books or seen the TV show, check it out.!!

By doing a stage production you get really close to the action. The actors are so good at interacting with audience, that it brings the stories to life. They had people up on stage, ran into the audience etc. It was a great funny evening's entertainment. At the same time you also learn something about our History. Highly recommended.  Who says holidays cannot be educational? We went away at Half Term, yet even in term time you would probably learn more about British history on this break than in school. That would be a post for another day. Term Time holidays!!!!

Overall then a great week. Shame about the weather. 1st June was colder than Christmas Day. Luckily Butlins entertainment saved the week. Roll on Summer!!
